Ronnie Segree Works

Ronnie Segree has been carving wood, creating and playing music most of his adult life.  He and twin brother Donnie were the first set of twins born in the old military hospital at Apalachicola Airport.   He survived his infant years much to the amazement of his doctor who actually declared him dead during one emergency room visit to the hospital. Wood Carver, fisherman and musician Ronnie Segree is strongly grounded in faith, family, and the watery world of the Forgotten Coast. His father was born on Cat Point and raised his nine children on the once productive Apalachicola Bay. This way of life is fast fading, but Ronnie still remembers how the fish felt in his hands when removing them from his fishing nets.  When carving a piece of wood those muscle memories flow through his hands and into the wood.  It may be his near death experiences as an infant that allowed his artistic senses of sound, sight  and touch to become more highly developed than others. Inspiration from his artistic works and his music come from the world he grew up in and is a part of.  When asked why he lives here he is not hesitant to tell you this is where his family has been for generations, and this is where he was meant to be.  Traveling the river and bay system Ronnie is always on the lookout for pieces of wood to turn into carvings or fragments of words to spin into songs about a world and culture that are fast fading away. His gift is letting you take a small glimpse into the old Forgotten Coast via his songs and carvings before it fades away.
