Maria Spies Works

Maria has worked as an independent studio potter since 1973 after a brief but meaningful apprenticeship with Eugena Lemon, Mobile, AL.   In 1982 Maria began teaching at Eastern Shore Art Center, Fairhope, AL.  From there she taught and managed the ceramics studio at Dallas Craft Guild, Dallas, TX for 12 years.  In Seattle she taught at Seward Park Art Center eight years and in the Philadelphia area for 3 years she taught and managed the historic Chester Spring Art Center ceramics department.  Upon returning to the Fairhope area in 2007 she has taught classes and is the director of the ceramics department at Eastern Shore Art Center.

In each city Maria set up her home studio and began to work, show and sell her pottery in local galleries and shows.  And she has been privileged to study and work with many national and international ceramics artists throughout the years.

Her work is represented in many galleries and collections throughout the country.
