Artist Michael Bateman

Koi Gems jewelry artist Michael Bateman, is a longtime resident of Tallahassee, Florida, and began working in the lapidary arts in 1975. He received his formal training in silversmithing at the William Holland School for Lapidary Arts, and continued classwork at Florida State University. A true rockhound, Michael has collected beautiful rough material from all over the USA. Gemstones are cut and polished to emphasize the color and shape of each stone, as informed by the native character of the rough material. Where possible, the location where the stone was found is furnished to the buyer.

Finished stones are selected by uniqueness, vibrancy, and color pattern, and settings are uniquely fashioned by hand to highlight the stone’s best qualities. Using only natural gemstones, each custom piece is now crafted exclusively from Argentium sterling silver. Argentium is a finer grade of sterling with a pure silver content of 93.5% (versus 92.5% for standard sterling) and rarely needs polishing.Michael is certified by the Argentium Silver Guild (based in the United Kingdom). Thank you for supporting Michael’s handmade artisan jewelry. MADE IN USA.
