Susan Frisbee is a glass artist living in Tallahassee, Florida who for the past 40 years has specialized and made her livelihood from creating and fabricating unique, functional, custom and decorative art glass pieces. Using both the traditional lead came and copper foil technique she creates panels, lamps, boxes, kaleidoscopes and custom work sometimes incorporating found objects such as shells, plates, fused glass or various metals in one of a kind colorful artwork treasures.
Susan has created a window hanging featuring a pod of Pink Amazon River dolphins. These mammals are a fresh water dolphin also called a “Boto”. Their current population is somewhere in the thousands having dwindled by 94% since 2000. Some of the indigenous people believe killing a river dolphin will bring years of bad luck. Another local legend claims these creatures have magical powers with the ability to come ashore at night as handsome men to seduce the local women folk. Legends however have not stopped poachers from killing this intelligent creature for fish bait. The “Boto” is the largest and smartest out of the five freshwater species and can live up to 30 years. They have incredibly large brains having 40% more capacity than humans. What a tragedy if these were to disappear from the Amazon.
