Glass

As a practicing architect, astro-landscape photographer, and glass artist, Kathryn holds degrees in architecture and fine art, with master coursework in fused glass.  All of her glass work is carefully hand-crafted with quality materials, and expertly fused and annealed.  As a 50+ year resident of North Florida, much of her work is heavily influenced by imagery of pristine springs, and coastal shores.  Regardless of the subject, the rectilinear designs and precision crafting belies Kathryn’s architectural training and attention to detail.

Hand-cut, kiln-formed glass is a labor intensive endeavor. Each tiny piece is cut to size, and careful placed with tweezers into the overall composition. The glass piece (or pieces!) are dammed, and fired to just under 1500 degrees to fuse. After annealing and cooling, it is then shaped, ground, and sand-blasted, to satisfaction. This last firing softens the glass to fit the shallow form in the bottom of the kiln, and provides a soft lustre to the surface.
